- 1We take your history — how long the lesion has been there, how it has changed, and what it is doing to you day to day.
- 2The lesion is examined clinically, and with dermoscopy where that is indicated.
- 3We consider the likely diagnosis and whether treatment is medically appropriate here.
- 4If it is, you receive a written quote and the procedure is booked as a separate appointment. If it is not, we tell you why, and refer you where specialist assessment is needed.
What happens on the day of treatment
- 1Written consent is taken and the procedure is explained again, including the risks.
- 2The area is cleaned and local anaesthetic is injected. You feel a sharp scratch and a few seconds of stinging, then the area is numb.
- 3The procedure is carried out — excision, curettage and cautery, or injection, depending on the lesion.
- 4A dressing is applied and you are given written aftercare instructions and a contact number.
- 5Where sutures are used they are removed 7–14 days later, and that appointment is included.

Additional lesions are priced according to number, size, complexity and treatment required. The assessment fee is payable in addition to the cost of treatment. You receive a written quote before any procedure is booked.
Size bands for seborrhoeic keratoses and warts are small (under 2.5cm), large (over 2.5cm) and giant (over 4cm).
All prices shown are the total price payable by the patient for the treatment described.
Aftercare
Keep the wound clean and dry for 48 hours, avoid stretching or heavy use of the area, and follow the written instructions you are given on the day. Most wounds are comfortable within a few days.
Contact us if the wound becomes increasingly painful, red, hot or starts to discharge, or if bleeding does not settle with pressure. Dressings and aftercare products are available in the pharmacy downstairs.
Frequently asked questions
What happens at the assessment?
Thirty minutes with Dr Westwood: your history, examination of the lesion, dermoscopy where indicated, consideration of the likely diagnosis and a clear view on whether treatment is medically appropriate. If it is, you leave with a written quote and a treatment appointment can be arranged.
Why do I have to pay for an assessment before treatment?
Because the assessment is the clinical work. Deciding what a lesion is, whether it is safe to treat here and which technique is appropriate takes examination and expertise, and it is what makes the treatment safe.
What happens if treatment isn't medically indicated?
You are told so plainly, and why. The £95 fee covers the assessment itself — the examination, the diagnosis and the clinical opinion — and is payable whether or not treatment follows. This is a medical lesion clinic, and lesions requested for purely cosmetic removal are not treated here.
How soon can I be treated after assessment?
Treatment is arranged in clinic once your assessment is complete and a written quote is agreed. It is not bookable online.
What if my lesion needs specialist assessment?
Anything atypical, suspicious or otherwise needing specialist input is referred rather than treated here. Removing such a lesion in a non-specialist setting risks losing information a specialist needs.
Do you do histology and when is it needed?
Yes, where it is clinically indicated as part of your assessment and management. Laboratory examination of removed tissue is £160 for the first lesion and £95 for each additional lesion.
How many lesions can be treated in one session?
Agreed at assessment, based on how many are medically indicated for treatment and what can safely be done in one sitting. Additional lesions are priced according to number, size, complexity and treatment required.
Will I need stitches removed and is that included?
Where sutures are used they are usually removed 7–14 days later depending on the site, and that appointment is included in the treatment price.
