What it is
Warts are rough, raised growths caused by human papillomavirus infecting the top layer of skin. Verrucas are the same thing on the sole of the foot, pushed flat by body weight. Many resolve on their own eventually, and over-the-counter salicylic acid or cryotherapy will clear a proportion — our pharmacy team can advise on those first, and often that is the sensible starting point.
When treatment is appropriate
Where a wart has not responded to first-line treatment, is painful, is bleeding or repeatedly traumatised, is spreading, or is interfering with walking or function.
How it works
Local anaesthetic, then curettage and cautery — the wart is removed at skin level and the base sealed. Because warts are viral, there is a recurrence rate even after complete removal, and we will say so before you book rather than after.
